My 15-year-old Nespresso milk frother just bailed on me a couple days ago mid-latte making.
You can't even find this model anymore online (believe me, I’ve tried).
She was a loyal companion and frothed like no other. A true kitchen queen who brought pure joy to my very high-maintenance morning latte routine.
Together, we survived every nut "milk" trend and a brief but regrettable experiment with raw milk.
(I know, I know... I tried so hard to make it work for months. But my stomach, face, and skin all said nope.)
And then, one morning... she simply stopped. No more foam, just my cold almond milk sitting sadly in the vessel.
No more gentle whirring (she really was whisper quiet). Just the sound of the automatic motor turn-off and all the back-lit buttons going out.
We checked everything, feverishly testing different plugs to see if maybe it was just the outlet.
But alas, my jack-of-all-trades husband confirmed that the motor was toast, and she had frothed her last.
Naturally, I went through all five stages of appliance grief 🫠
I’m very attached to my crew: my Nespresso frother, Kangen water filter, and Vitamix blender, to name a few. I like quality tools that actually work.
To me, it’s worth investing in something that stands the test of time rather than buying cheap short-term replacements over and over.
But if I'm being totally honest, I knew she was on her last leg. The wear and tear was real:
The grounding plug was broken, the Teflon-like coating inside was wearing down, and the plastic casing was cracked.
(I know, I know... toxins and all that. But seriously, you should have seen her froth!!!)
So, I’d been searching for a replacement for two years. No joke.
Welcome to my world of deep research and thorough decision-making. I am a Questioner according to Gretchen Rubin's Four Tendencies. I like to know what I'm committing to when it's important.
And I already had my eye on a new one. I’d tested the new kid on the block at a friend’s house earlier this year and thought, “Ooooh. This might actually be better.”
It provided even more foam, was easier to clean, had a sleek design, and didn't have electrical parts exposed during cleaning in the sink. It was the holy grail of frothers!
But did I buy it then?
Of course not.
I went back to my loyal, worn-out frother. Because she still worked (kinda) and we’d been through so much together.
Because I wasn’t ready.
I told my husband that I would remember this day forever... the day we buried my OG frother. It is truly the end of an era.
All jokes aside, it got me thinking...

What if we apply this metaphor to other areas of life (just like my vacuum story from a couple years ago 😂)?
What if we apply this to our job. Our routines and relationships. Our “meh” health habits. That identity we're clinging to because it used to fit.
How often do we whisper “I’m fine,” while secretly knowing something better is waiting... if we’d just let go?
So today, I’m raising a toast with my favorite, unapologetically large coffee mug that holds my perfect, cloud-like, unsweetened vanilla almond milk foam (thanks for asking):
Here's to letting go before things have to break.
You don’t have to wait until rock bottom to make a decision and change.
You don’t have to cling to “good enough.”
You don’t have to let your frother (or your joy) go down with the ship.
Let it be easy. Let it be new. Let it froth.
And if you do wait for the tower moment of total crumble and chaos, that's all good too.
But this time, you get to build it the way you want.
It might even be better than before.
Maybe you’ve outgrown something that can’t come with you.
Maybe the new thing is here to serve you in a way the old thing never could.
Either way, it’s all happening in your favor.
And if you’ve ever mourned a kitchen appliance, you are absolutely my people.
With foam and freedom,
