It’s been just over a week since our last newsletter, and to be honest, my heart’s been heavy. Sharing an educational email about protein is the last thing I want to do.
Here in Texas, the recent flooding has been devastating. Lives have been lost, including many children, and as a mother of two, it’s impossible not to feel it deeply. There’s a kind of grief that cannot be expressed in words, especially when it hits so close to home.
Moments like these pull everything into focus: my gratitude sharpens and the small things become even more sacred. I purposefully slow down even more and bask in the small joys of feeling sun on my face and a warm 10am latte. My boys have probably had enough of the extra 157 hugs a day they’ve been getting, but it’s how my heart copes with the unimaginable.
At the same time, I’ve been reflecting on just how much we’re all carrying right now, both individually and collectively.
For many parents, it’s the ongoing adjustment of summer, trying to juggle family time, changing routines, and the constant push-pull of being present for your kids while still trying to get work done. There’s that invisible guilt of not showing up fully in either role, feeling stretched thin, like you’re doing everything and somehow still falling short.
And in the middle of all of it, I’ve been reflecting on what has held me steady. Not in a theoretical or idealistic way, but in the actual, embodied practices that keep me rooted and resourced no matter what the outside world is doing.
For me, that includes (and has for years now):

☀️ Morning walks and getting sunlight on my skin
🌎 Quite literally putting my bare feet on the Earth as often as I can and just breathing consciously with no agenda
🏋️♀️ Strength training consistently, not obsessively. And I've leaned in more to our group classes and training with family because I need the community right now.
🥩 Eating enough protein to stabilize my energy and nervous system
😴 Prioritizing hydration and sleep
👯♀️ Limiting the doomscrolling and choosing real connection instead
🫂 Boosting oxytocin through hugs, conversations, family dinners, dancing, and social time
🤩 Taking action when I feel called, instead of getting lost in consumption
These are not luxuries. They are absolute non-negotiables.
And NONE of them cost anymore in terms of time or money than what I was doing previously before I learned how to take care of myself properly.
These are the same foundational principles we teach inside Awaken Your Nutrition.
Not just for better energy or body composition, but as a long-term stabilizing force in times of both ease and upheaval. These tools help people stay regulated and empowered instead of spinning out when things get hard.
And what I love most of all: these practices feel automatic for me now as they do for our long-term members. Not because I’m always highly motivated, but because I took the time to learn what matters most. I actually rarely have to rely on motivation.
What I do rely on are the systems, routines, environment, and processes I've built to make sure they happen with ease... while not doing them is actually more painful than the effort required to show up.
I invested 12 weeks to understand how to care for my body. I learned the how, the why, and the what. What actually moves the needle. What to prioritize. What to let go of. I learned all of that inside Awaken Your Nutrition, and then I kept practicing. Not searching for another quick fix but repeating the same boring basics over and over.
Until it became embodied.
And just like brushing teeth daily, what really works is never flashy.
Now, my brain doesn’t have to debate every decision. I don’t waste time wondering what to eat or if I should move my body. I don’t feel confused about how to support my energy or what’s “healthy enough,” especially in the middle of a crisis or immense grief.
I am more in tune with my body's signs and signals than ever and so much decision-making fatigue is gone when it comes to health.
And the difference is profound. Because I’ve done it the other way too, and I can tell you this: going through something hard without knowing how to care for your physical body makes everything ten times more difficult.
You’re under-resourced from the inside out.
But when your foundational practices are in place, you can meet life with clarity, calm, and resilience. There will still be plenty of crying, but you will weather the storm and you don't have to do it alone.
That’s why we teach this work. Because life is going to keep life-ing.
And you deserve to move through it with strength and steadiness.
For many of you reading, this is where it begins. And for others, it might be where you take the next step.
