I have been on several calls recently with people applying to our program and have noticed a pattern of negative self talk, which sounds like this: “I’m lazy. I should do more. I know better.”
Meanwhile, these are the same people that are juggling an astronomical amount of responsibility, pressure, workload, emotional labor, unprocessed trauma and conditioning, and non-stop decision-making... often without rest, support, or acknowledgment.
Of course, that has got me reflecting on words... and why so many people use labels for themselves and others.
That’s when it really hits... when you realize someone is speaking about themselves in a way that reveals their pain. The words they used weren’t just about others... it was their own self-talk made public.

So when I hear clients say: “I’m lazy. I should do more. I know better.”
It always takes me back to those childhood moments. I feel that sting again but this time, I feel it for them.
And I want to ask,
“Who told you that?
When did you first start believing that about yourself?
What happened that made you collapse into that label?”
Because here’s the thing:
Lazy isn’t a personality trait.
Often, it’s a freeze response.
It’s a signal. It’s a whisper from your body saying,
“I’m overwhelmed.”
“I’m scared.”
“This isn’t safe.”
“I’ve tried before and it didn’t go well.”
“I don’t want to be seen.”
“I don’t trust that this time will be different.”
So when someone tells me they feel lazy or calls someone else lazy, I don’t buy it.
Instead, I get curious.
Because there’s always something under the surface — an experience, a belief, a memory — that’s holding it all in place.
What if your resistance isn’t dysfunction… but wisdom?
Maybe the gym triggers you because of something someone said when you were younger.
Maybe wearing tight workout clothes makes you feel exposed.
Maybe you were told to shrink, to be smaller, to look different, and you’ve been rebelling against that ever since.
Maybe you’re overworked, overstimulated, and scared.
Maybe your body is begging you to rest.
This is why, in the second half of our Awaken Your Nutrition program, we shift from food science to something deeper.
We begin to explore the emotional layers.
We start asking:
Where does the resistance come from?
Why does change feel so hard?
What stories are we still carrying about health, weight, and self-worth?
Because it’s almost never about willpower.
It’s about safety.
And until the body feels safe, no amount of macros or step goals will move the needle.
And this is why we do things differently.
At The Green Door Life, we do not believe health should come with punishment.
Feeling starving and going to bed hungry every night is not required for results and more a red flag of imbalance.
We don’t restrict for restriction’s sake.
We don’t celebrate suffering.
Instead, we focus on meeting your nutrient needs, fueling your body early in the day, and helping you create a rhythm of nourishment that actually feels good.
Most of our clients end up eating more often and more volume than they were before and finally feel better for the first time in years.
Because yes, you can be overweight and undernourished.
And yes, you can heal without shame.

So here’s the invitation:
If you are tired of the cycle...
Tired of calling yourself names,
Tired of trying things that feel like punishment,
Tired of assuming you’re the problem…
We want to welcome you into a completely different experience.
Awaken Your Nutrition is not about suffering.
It’s about alignment, nourishment, safety, and energy for transformation that actually lasts.
And for many people, the first step is this:
Laying down the shame so you can meet your body with compassion.
So you can finally understand the root of your behavior and choices.
So your nervous system can relax enough to let go of what it’s been holding.
Because your body was never the problem.
And neither were you 💚
