Sometimes we feel like we're on a lonely island out there encouraging people to eat food in a world that promotes skipping meals and cutting out entire macronutrient groups, like carbs. While the nutrition fads come and go, the end result remains the same: it gets people to eat less.

But is eating less really the solution?

We say, NO.

In fact, almost every new client who is struggling and signs up for our program practices this common behavior: skipping breakfast. And possibly other meals.

Some people have had success with fasting. Good for them!

Most people we meet are stressed to the max. Skipping breakfast and going over four hours in between meals is only adding to that stress, which has a reverse impact on overall health and eating habits.

You know why it can feel good skipping meals? Because your cortisol starts ramping up and your adrenaline goes into overdrive. Your body is literally giving you more energy to go look for food. No joke.

So then you have this spike in energy, you go about your day, slam some more coffee, and then you wonder why you need a bottle of wine at 4 p.m. just to "wind down".

When you're in a fasting-induced chronic fight or flight state, you may burn fat at first for extra energy but we find that most people plateau as their body moves into an elevated survival state and naturally turns into fat-storing mode out of self-preservation.

In other words, when you skip meals at first, yes, you can burn body fat to compensate for missing calories. But do this chronically... and your body gets wise to your games and adapts so you don't die. Genius body!! 

Not to mention... how many people are actually successful fasting / skipping meals without binge eating and drinking later in the day?

For most people, getting in all the body's necessary micronutrients is nearly impossible in just 1-2 meals a day.

What we find to be tried and true and effective for almost every single one of our 1,000's of clients we work with is to start the day with breakfast (within 1 hour of waking) and to not go more than 4 hours without eating (unless you're sleeping overnight :).

The true path to health is never sexy. It never "sells". 

For many of us, a balanced lifestyle is not restrictive or painful enough. We have to coax clients into understanding how physiology works so they don't self-sabotage by skipping meals and over-exercising.

We have to convince people through consistent education and real-life self-experimentation that chasing those highs and living in extremes is detrimental to long-term health.

When our clients message us in disbelief after just a few days of eating regularly and consuming a larger volume of food more frequently, we always sit back and smile... because we know the incredible changes that are coming 💚
