When Body Weight Isn’t Just About Food

Uncategorized Oct 16, 2026

There was a time in my own journey when I,  , thought physical transformation meant simply mastering the mechanics:

Eat clean.

Train smart.

Track your macros.

Check the data.

Repeat.

Like 1+1=2, I thought calories in + calories out = weight loss, and another formula for muscle gain, etc., works as long as you followed it consistently and accurately.

But the longer I work with people and the deeper I have experience my own holistic healing, the more I understand that the body doesn’t only digest food.

It digests life... ALL of life.

As certain clients shift through states of joy, grief, loss and transition, I noticed that their bodies shifted as well, regardless of what they were eating and how they were moving.

That's why every single client's experience (and plan) inside Awaken Your Nutrition is personalized and unique.

Every season we move through, every loss, every surge of stress or joy, every emotion we don’t quite know how to feel, gets metabolized through our physiology just like food, water, and light.

Sometimes that looks like inflammation or weight gain. Sometimes it looks like exhaustion, loss of appetite, or stalled muscle growth.

I’ve lived a life of tracking my own body composition changes and have watched thousands of people move through The Green Door Life programs.

What I’ve learned is that the body always tells the truth, even when we’re not ready to hear it.

The Season of Holding

Some years ago, I started to notice that my own body was quietly protecting me as I embarked on the next level of healing.

No matter how consistent I was with training and nutrition, I felt heavier and slower.

Strangely, I counteracted by moving faster, as if to escape the feeling of discomfort. To outperform it in a way.

At first, I judged it.

But as I began my studies in somatic emotional release, Kriya Yoga, and quantum healing, I realized that my body was doing exactly what it was designed to do in this season of life:

My body was holding me.

It was keeping me safe while I was processing grief, change, and the kind of emotional weight that doesn’t move just because we want it to.

For some of us, safety looks like holding more.

For others, safety looks like needing to feel empty.

Neither is wrong. Both are coping mechanisms of an intelligent system trying to find balance in chaos.

When the Weight Isn’t About the Food

If you’ve ever felt frustrated by a plateau or wondered why your progress suddenly stopped even though nothing changed on paper, this might be why.

When we are digesting previously unprocessed emotion whether grief, anger, fear, or even excitement, our body adapts to protect us.

Think about it:

When we carry “the weight of the world,” we feel it on our shoulders.

When we feel unsupported, our knees and feet ache.

When the heart is heavy, the chest tightens and breath becomes shallow.

The body is not betraying you.

It’s trying to communicate in the only language it has...

Sensation and feeling!

Listening Differently

I’ve spent almost 20 years in this field, playing what I used to call “the game of body composition.”

I’ve helped people optimize their metabolism, regulate blood sugar, and rebuild their strength.

But now, I see it all differently.

It’s not just a game of numbers.

It’s a relationship.

Your body isn’t an opponent to conquer. Or an “it” to manage.

It’s a partner in communication.

It’s a partner in co-creation.

So, when your progress stalls or your shape changes, before you revert to rush and fix it.

Pause and ask:

What am I trying to hold right now?

What emotion am I resisting feeling?

What season of life am I truly in?

Do I truly have the capacity to face what I am feeling?

(This can sometimes be the hardest of them all to answer.. And if the answer is no, it’s OK.)

Sometimes the most powerful physical transformation starts when we stop forcing the outcome and start listening to the emotional story underneath.

Your Invitation This Week:

Notice your body as a storyteller:

Name the emotion:
What are you digesting that isn’t food?

Anchor safety:
A warm meal, a deep breath, a short walk, or a gentle workout-something that says “I’m here.”

Soften the self-judgment:
When you understand the mechanism, you can meet it with compassion instead of control.

If you’re currently in our Awaken Your Nutrition program, or if you’re walking your own path of change, take this as your reminder:

You are not broken. You are becoming.

Your body, mind, and spirit are collaborating to integrate everything you’ve lived through.

And as you learn to listen-beyond the macros and beyond the mirror, you’ll begin to hear what your body has been whispering all along:

You’re safe to transform.

We'd love to hear what story your body telling you right now Click reply to share. We read every response!

With warmth and reverence,

Shannon and The Green Door Life Team
