We talk to so many people who are who are doing what they believe is “everything right.” They’re buying organic food. They’re choosing pasture-raised and grass-fed. They’re avoiding toxins, cooking at home, eating what most would consider an ancestral or whole-food diet.
Many of them have cycled through Paleo, Keto, or some version of pro-metabolic eating, and they’ve done it thoughtfully, not casually.
And still, something feels off.
Energy isn’t where they expect it to be. Body fat doesn’t budge, or it comes and goes unpredictably. Sleep is light or fragmented. Blood sugar feels unstable. There’s a quiet frustration that builds when effort doesn’t seem to match results.
What I’ve noticed, over and over again, is that this is often the point where people either start doubting themselves thinking something is truly wrong with their metabolism or start looking for the next rule set to follow.
And this is where things get uncomfortable, because the truth usually lives in the middle:
Food quality matters. Most of you reading this already understand that. You’ve put real care into what you eat, and that matters deeply for long-term health.
But what often gets missed is that quality doesn’t exist in isolation.
How much you eat matters too (i.e. how many calories you consume daily).
So does when you eat.
So does how much you eat at one time.
So does how long you go between meals.
So does the window of time in which you’re eating each day.
So does the state of your nervous system when you eat. When you eat in a sympathetic state — fight or flight — you do not absorb nutrients as well because resources are diverted away from digestion.
So does the environment in which you eat... inside under artificial blue lights vs. outside in natural light. Yes, it has an actual observable impact on your blood glucose levels and ability to metabolize food. I'll be covering this in Awaken Foundations!
So does state of your hormones, sleep quality, what supplements you're taking, what medications you're taking, your age, biological sex, daily steps, exercise, emotions, menstrual cycle, and the amount of muscle mass you have...
All of this matters not just for determining your body weight, but for how your metabolism functions overall. Here's why:

Eating most of their calories late at night. Skipping meals during the day and unintentionally compressing intake. Grazing on calorie-dense foods that feel “healthy” but quietly add up.
Nothing about that makes someone undisciplined or careless. It just means no one ever helped them zoom out and look at the full picture.
And as I always say: modern access to unlimited food (even if it's "healthy") requires a modern strategy for eating.
Unless we're moving like our ancestors (which was about 20,000 steps a day on average, plus carrying heavy loads for muscle building), then a strategy of just "eat whole foods" or "eat like our ancestors" may not bring you the health and optimized body composition you desire.
It's very easy to eat a lot of calories when your food is extremely nutrient dense.
One of the most common points of confusion I see is around calories, especially in spaces where food quality is emphasized, but quantity is treated like it no longer matters.
Your metabolism still follows the basic laws of energy. That doesn’t mean everything is a math equation, but it does mean the math still exists. When that reality is ignored, people eventually hit a wall. Fat loss stalls. Energy dips. Or weight slowly creeps up, even when nothing obvious has changed.
Dietary fat is often part of this conversation, not because fat is bad, but because it’s easy to underestimate. Fat is incredibly calorie-dense, requires very little energy to metabolize, and is stored in the body in the same form as body fat. When intake consistently exceeds what the body needs, it has a straightforward place to go.
Most people don’t realize this is happening because the foods themselves feel nourishing and intentional. And they are. But nourishment and excess can coexist.
What’s usually missing isn’t willpower. It’s education.
And right now, too much information is getting in the way of true nutrition science + metabolic science education, and thus implementation. People have more access to nutrition information and opinions than ever, and yet are more confused and overwhelmed than before.
That allows us to cling to what "someone online" said as to why we're not seeing the results we want while the simple truth is staring at us in the face.
Here's what I mean by that...

Calories are dismissed entirely, timing is ignored, and people are left feeling confused when their experience doesn’t match the promise.
But every time you eat, and the size of that meal, sends a hormonal and blood sugar signal to your body. Those signals add up over the course of a day, a week, a season of life. And those needs are not static.
They’re bio-individual, and they change as we age, especially for women.
That's why what worked in your 20s or early 30s may not work the same way in your 40s and beyond. That doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. It means your body is different now, and it deserves a different approach.
The solution isn't to return back to extreme restriction or chasing another rigid protocol. In fact, most people I work with are under-fueled in key areas like protein while being over-fueled in calorie-dense fats, without realizing it.
They're also not eating much in terms of volume of food all day, but calories are still very high, especially at night.
We’ve swung from one extreme to another. From low-fat, highly processed diets to deeply nourishing foods that are also very energy-dense. Somewhere in between is the middle ground most people are actually looking for.
Movement plays a role here too. Even people who exercise regularly are often far more sedentary than they think. We move less throughout the day than our bodies are designed for, which means our baseline energy needs are lower than we assume.
And no, the answer isn’t intermittent fasting. It isn’t pushing calories as low as possible. For many women, those strategies backfire more often than they help.
The answer is understanding how nutrition, metabolism, exercise, hormones, and lifestyle habits actually work together, and learning how to apply that information in a way that fits your real life.

That’s the work we do inside all of our nutrition programming, and we have a handful of options now to meet your timing and budget needs.
Awaken Foundations is a 4-week, non-immersive experience designed to simplify the basics. No workouts required. No long educational course. No tracking food. No macros.
Just live calls, one clear PDF, and practical guidance around creating balanced meals, hormones, circadian rhythm, movement, and mindset, including how to adjust during your luteal phase so you stop mistaking biology for failure.
I'm going to teach you a formula for creating a balanced meal (without tracking) so you can start to look at food in an entirely new way. This is even applicable for our alumni who are "stuck in the numbers" and missing the bigger picture of what a balanced meal actually means.
This is for the people who have been following The Green Door Life for months, maybe even years, waiting for the right moment to step in.
It’s also for alumni who want a reset, a refresher, or a supportive container to reconnect with the basics without diving back into something intensive. If you feel like 2025 was trolling you and you do best with weekly accountability, do not think twice about re-joining; that's exactly what this container is for!
