We talk to so many people who are who are doing what they believe is “everything right.” They’re buying organic food. They’re choosing pasture-raised and grass-fed. They’re avoiding toxins, cooking at home, eating what most would consider an ancestral or whole-food diet.
Many of them have cycled through Paleo, Keto, or some version of pro-metabolic eating, and they’ve done it thoughtfully, not casually.
And still, something feels off.
Energy isn’t where they expect it to be. Body fat doesn’t budge, or it comes and goes unpredictably. Sleep is light or fragmented. Blood sugar feels unstable. There’s a quiet frustration that builds when effort doesn’t seem to match results.
What I’ve noticed, over and over again, is that this is often the point where people either start doubting themselves thinking something is truly wrong with their metabolism or start looking for the next rule set to follow.
And this is where things get uncomfortable, because the truth usually lives in the middle:...
Not because it was hard, but because it's extremely messy, and I got impatient. We're not there yet, it's not perfect, and I let frustration get the best of me.
We saw some great activity recently with our starter showing signs of overflow but it has yet to pass the float test (IYKYK). But now we feel like progress has gone backwards since starting double day feedings with it hardly doubling in size overnight like it used to.
(To our dear clients... does this sound familiar? Read on...)
We’re coming up on three weeks, and I had that familiar thought that creeps in when something doesn’t look the way you expected it to:
I must be doing something wrong.
It doesn’t match the bubbly, happy starters I’ve seen all over curated social media feeds, optimized for algorithms.
It doesn’t resemble the romantic videos of women in peasant dresses, lovingly tending to their sourdough while holding young babies and never seeming to be emotionally rattled by anything.
What I haven’t seen much of...

Yesterday on our weekly group call, someone asked me a simple question about creatine: “Should I take it? What do you think about it?”
And my answer was the same answer I give to almost everything inside Awaken Your Nutrition: It depends, and here’s why.
This program is built on something most of the wellness world forgets.
There are foundational truths that always hold. There is science that has stood the test of time.
And everything beyond that is bio-individual.
This is why our coaching style is not black or white.
It is not absolute.
It is not “do this because I said so.”
It is nuanced on purpose.
Because real humans require nuance.
Between myself, Shannon, and our coaching team, we have worked with thousands of people across every possible hormone profile, metabolism, stress load, glucose pattern, emotional landscape, and season of life.
We have seen it all.
And we know something most programs never account for.
There is no one path. There is only your path.

I filmed a solo podcast recently, and I really, really need you to listen to it.
Not because “content.” Not because algorithms.
Because something cracked open in me recently, and I know you’re feeling this moment of reckoning, too.
Take me with you on a walk and your life might change drastically in less than 24 minutes.
Here's where this all came from...
About a month ago, I sat down to film a podcast about creatine.
Instead, what came out is the truth about why my nervous system feels calmer, why my brain feels clearer, and why I suddenly feel like I’m back in the driver’s seat of my own life.
It wasn’t a new supplement. It wasn’t a new planner, a color-coded calendar, or a fancy morning routine.
It was deleting Instagram from my phone.
And the quantum jump I've made since then.
Complete with a full identity shift, thought quality upgrades, and expanded capacity in every area of my life.
Because everything we consume (not ...
There’s a moment every woman reaches at some point in her 40s, possibly as early as mid 30. (And this goes for men, too! It might just show up a little later).
You’re doing all the “right” things, eating healthy, exercising, trying to be consistent, and suddenly things stop working.
Maybe your energy dips or motivation feels off. You're still doing all the things but your body holds on no matter what you do.
And you start to wonder, What’s wrong with me?!
I know because I've been there.Â
Turning 40 hit me like a ton of bricks.
I was already a nutrition coach at that point, so my eating was dialed in, and I had plenty of muscle mass from strength training multiple times a week for decades. So what happened?
Here's what I came to find out:
My stress tolerance was starting to lower and my body was responding appropriately to my environmental inputs.
And what controls those body processes, including fat-burning and hunger signals? Hormones.
A...
We all know that feeling... when we’ve fallen off track with our rhythm of training, nourishment, or self-care, and the thought of starting again feels insurmountable as one of our members so perfectly described it.
It can feel like we’ve lost momentum, slipped backwards, or “failed” the version of ourselves we were becoming.
But what if that wasn’t true?
Recently inside our community, one of our veteran members inspired us to share this teaching moment.
She said she hadn’t done a workout in three weeks. But instead of spiraling into guilt, delaying further, or trying to motivate herself on her own... she did something different.
She posted in our community chat where she was at and that she was available to train this Friday to encourage others who may be feeling similarly.
That’s it. One message. No shame. Total awareness.
And our favorite part was that she coached herself in real time, realizing that the insurmountable feeling ...
A woman DM’ed us on Instagram last week asking, “I lost weight but I’m still not seeing the muscle definition I want. What am I missing?”
If you’ve ever felt that way, you’re not alone. Let's cut right to the answer:
Muscle definition is the result of two things:
1. A low enough body fat percentage: to achieve this, optimized nutrition is non-negotiable. You cannot out-train your diet.Â
2. Enough skeletal muscle mass: this is the kind you can actually train as opposed to your heart, stomach, etc. To achieve this, you need the right balance of fuel (i.e. type + amount of food), consistent load (the right workouts over time), and rest (ability to recover).
Now let’s say your nutrition is dialed in and you’re already at a healthy body fat percentage, but you still want to see more definition.
Here’s what most people don’t realize:Â
After you lose weight, there aren’t automatically sculpted muscles waiting underneath unless you've already built them.
That's why muscle doesn’t alway...
When we think of balancing hormones, many look first to supplementation or hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
Yet before we reach for something outside of us, we must first look to the foundation of our biology—movement, light, rhythm, hydration, and nourishment.
Inside the body, muscle tissue isn’t just about strength or aesthetics.
Muscle is a living endocrine organ.
When we strength train with intention and intensity, the muscle fibers release myokines—powerful signaling molecules that communicate with our brain, fat tissue, immune system, and reproductive organs.
These myokines, along with the mitochondria they strengthen, support:
Healthy testosterone levels (in both men and women)
Balanced estrogen and progesterone in women
Regulated leptin for hunger and satiety
Calibrated cortisol for stress resilience
This is why strength training can be one of the most powerful hormonal therapies available—because it supports the body’s ...
There was a time in my own journey when I,
Eat clean.
Train smart.
Track your macros.
Check the data.
Repeat.
Like 1+1=2, I thought calories in + calories out = weight loss, and another formula for muscle gain, etc., works as long as you followed it consistently and accurately.
But the longer I work with people and the deeper I have experience my own holistic healing, the more I understand that the body doesn’t only digest food.
It digests life... ALL of life.
As certain clients shift through states of joy, grief, loss and transition, I noticed that their bodies shifted as well, regardless of what they were eating and how they were moving.Â
That's why every single client's experience (and plan) inside Awaken Your Nutrition is personalized and unique.
Every season we move through, every loss, every surge of stress or joy, every emotion we don’t quite know how to feel, gets metabolized through our physiol...
When you grow, your roots need space to expand.
