Early morning workouts: yay or nay?

Uncategorized Jun 12, 2021

If you had to choose between:

  • 4 hours of sleep & an early morning workout, OR
  • 7 hours of sleep & no workout

Which one do you think is more important?

Drum roll please...

Some clients come to us needing more movement in their day and do just fine with additional strength training + balanced nutrition.

On the opposite spectrum, we see one too many clients come to us on the verge of total burnout

This cycle of:

little or poor quality sleep

waking up at the crack of dawn to squeeze in a cardio session under-eating the right macronutrients all day ...

is extremely hard on the body, leading to a high stress, high inflammation, fat-storing state.

Those attached to this kind of routine may feel that their workout is crucial and “reduces stress”.

But in actuality, prioritizing a workout session above all other healthy habits is missing the bigger picture and could be causing more stress and harm as hormones get out of whack.

The quality of life and regulated appetite...

Have you ever been on a retreat?

Uncategorized Jun 05, 2021

Hey,

Have you ever been on a retreat before that completely transformed your life and exceeded all your expectations?

Funny story...

Because we were already virtually coaching for years before the pandemic hit, we intended 2020 to be the year that we launched our in-person events... including retreats 😂

Then we had to shift company goals pretty quickly!

During that time, however, we hosted a virtual 2-day retreat that was full of all the things we love...

  • Dance
  • Exercise
  • Meditation
  • 1:1 Support
  • Breakthrough Coaching
  • Educational Presentations
  • Self-Development Exercises
  • Tools, Hacks, and Real-Life Strategies
  • Rituals, Goal Setting, and Intentional Vision Work
  • Community (albeit, virtually)

The only thing missing was doing this all in person.

As things start to unfold and gatherings return, you can imagine that we're chomping at the bit to follow through with our original plans!

But in true Green Door Life fashion, we don't half-ass...

Eating clean doesn't always = lean. Here's why.

Uncategorized May 25, 2021

Hey ,

Do you know what’s painful?

Watching motivated people who want to get lean and increase energy use the wrong strategies by following bad advice, like this one👇

MYTH #1: Just eat clean (organic, unprocessed whole foods, no sugar, etc.) to get lean.

WHY IT’S NOT TRUE: consuming any macronutrient (proteins, carbs, or fats) in excess of what the body needs can be stored as body fat, regardless of how "clean" it is.

Now, you might be wondering… “Okay Shannon and Lisa, if that’s bad advice, then what do I do instead?”

What you want to do is leverage the power of nutrition science and personalized macronutrients.

Yes, food quality is important, but so is food quantity - especially when strategically balancing macronutrients at each meal for maximum energy and satiation.

This is exactly what one of our clients, Christine did.

At first, Christine was struggling with managing her...

Is cardio required for fat loss?

Uncategorized May 05, 2021

One question we get asked all the time is what kind of cardio we recommend if fat loss is the number one goal.

Before we dive into the answer, we have four call openings next week to apply for our 1-on-1 coaching program.

If you or someone you know would like to work closely together with us for 12 weeks to get lean, build muscle, and increase energy without restricting your favorite foods or wasting time on fad diets, click the button below to apply!

APPLY NOW

As you can see, this is our roundabout way of saying that cardio is not the most important factor for achieving fat loss. In fact, it's one of the least important factors!

Nutrition is truly the foundation of a healthy, strong body... because we can't out exercise an unbalanced diet. If we're eating more than we're burning and we're not actively strength training, the additional calories will be stored as body fat. That's why focusing on...

Why low carb diets backfire

Uncategorized Apr 05, 2021

Ever wonder why you couldn’t tolerate anyone but your dog while you were on that low carb diet?

Here’s why:

👉Carbs help boost your mood by increasing tryptophan in the brain, which can then be converted into serotonin🤩

👉They also provide a host of other benefits too, like energy! And micronutrients (vitamins, minerals, enzymes).

👉Carbs are the body’s preferred source of fuel in the form of glucose for muscle contraction, brain function, and organ function.

👉In other words, when you don’t consume carbohydrates, your body will find a way to make glucose internally. It’s THAT important.

If you’re truly doing Keto correctly and running on ketones... guess what? That’s your body’s double backup plan when carbs aren’t available and is NOT your the preferred way of operating.

As with all things, moderation is key.

😳Too many processed carbs at one time, especially without protein, can put you in a food coma 🛌

What's better - salad or pizza?

Uncategorized Mar 26, 2021

As kids, most of us weren’t taught the basics of how different foods metabolize in the body.

Many of us who struggle with healthy eating habits as adults grew up with emotional attachments around food and no real knowledge of nutrition science.

The messaging around food was more like:

👉finish your plate, people are starving

👉fat is evil, wait now sugar is evil (but then we also eat those as a family in excess - so, cue guilt & confusion)

👉Mom’s doing Weight Watchers for the 7th year in a row and loathes her body

👉food = love; don’t be rude to the cook, eat up!

👉eat when you’re told, if you’re not hungry now too bad, kitchen is closed later

Can you relate? 🤚

That's why it can be confusing when deciding between things like salad or pizza while trying to practice healthy habits.

How many years have we been eating with these conditioned beliefs operating in the...

Meal Prep Tips for Balanced Blood Sugar

Of course our members get all our favorite meals and we share a ton here...

But, The...

Eating a macronutrient balanced meal can be one of the most delicious, satiating, and nourishing moments of your day.

Without fail, every time I eat in the perfect balance for my body, I legit feel like I’ve had 10 cups of coffee without the jitters.

You won’t be lethargic afterward - you’ll have so much energy that people might accuse you of being annoyingly joyful

You’ll feel satiated but not unbutton-your-pants-and-lay-on-the-couch-in-a-Netflix-and-binge-food-coma kinda way.

You’re mood will be so stable, you’ll find yourself wondering if the world’s problems could be solved by simple balancing of blood sugar.

Your sleep will improve leaps and bounds, which keeps old cravings at bay over time.

You’ll crush your workouts and apologize to your body for all the times you...

surviving does NOT mean thriving

Uncategorized Feb 18, 2021

Hi The! Are you following us on Instagram yet? If not, head on over to @thegreendoor.life now and check out our latest posts full of myth busting and nutrition science education.

One thing we've been talking about lately is: carbohydrates. Poor carbs and sugar are still getting the short-end of the stick as the culprit for America's high obesity rates.

There are so many people out there who genuinely want to take better care of their bodies and health, and this is exactly why we're in the business of nutrition science education instead of following along fad diets. We know how maddening it can be to follow a protocol that has been advertised to help, only to lead you down the path of long-term yo yo dieting, out-of-whack hormones, and stubborn body fat that...

The, do you consider the amount that you sweat as an indicator of the effectiveness of your workout?

If so, we hate to break it to you but....

Super sweaty workouts that leave you in the fetal position after 60 minutes of all-out annihilation is probably overrated for helping you reach your goals

(Unless you’re legit training to compete in that modality, like CrossFit or a triathlon.)

Trying to out-exercise an unbalanced diet through sweat isn't effective, either. We burn way less calories than we think from exercise, which doesn't do much when also stress-drinking alcohol every night and hitting up the pantry for snacks like 7-11.
